World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development

Have you heard about the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development?

Working for such an ethical organisation like ICYE-UK is a great opportunity to become aware of the great work that the UN does to further its goals and to see how local projects take steps towards achieving them.

Why do we celebrate World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development?

The #UnitedNations invites us to reflect on the importance of #CulturalDiversity and how it enriches society.

Putting value in cultural diversity encourages #dialogue between people of different cultures, hopefully enabling everyone to work together and achieve important goals for all of us that can only be achieved if we are all aligned and work together: such as #peace and #SustainableDevelopment.

Diversity and Dialogue

Diversity and dialogue is fundamental in any of the projects our volunteers become a part of.

They are students of English as an additional language, come from abroad and join a team on a mission, they need to learn about a project, fit into a team and contribute to their organisation’s mission.

At ICYE-UK we have 12 projects currently hosting volunteers:

2 projects in Scout Activity Centres:

𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱 (http://www.thriftwood.org.uk/) and

𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱 : a Campsite and Activity Centre run by Hertfordshire Scouts.(https://www.phaselswood.org.uk/),

2 projects in Residential centres/homes for people with disabilities:

𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲: four care homes, plus a transition home for challenging needs. (http://www.williamblakehouse.org/pages/wbh-home.php) and

2 Youth Projects
